Over the past few months I've been working with a few friends on a song writing project, something I've not had a lot of time for recently. It was very satisfying to jump into it again - and with friends!
The goal was to write three songs based on the life of David for the upcoming Coram Deo Conference at Christ Covenant Church. We planned to write a song on David's Mercy (David and Saul), David's Folly (David and Bathsheba), and David's Song (his of victory in 2 Sam. 22). We ended up with a solo song on the mercy of Christ, a confessional song that's suited for a solo or choir, and one very singable and joyful congregational song. I'm grateful to the Clearly Reformed crew who encouraged us to take this project on.
The congregational song is called “To You My Life Belongs,” and it emphasizes the wonderful truth that no matter what, I am the Lord's. Because of my wrongs, Christ became my ransom. He redeemed me. Therefore, though doubt, danger and toil do arise, nothing changes the fact that I am his.
My cowriters for “To You My Life Belongs” were Ben Preiser, Jon Anderson, and Kevin DeYoung. Ben and Jon came up with the original text and melody, then we went worked together on a number of rewrites, and finally Kevin helped us clarify both the text and the melody, and generally pushed us to make it better and better. Digging in and working hard together is such a rewarding process.
I hope to introduce the other writers and the other two songs this year, but for now, “To You My Life Belongs” is out on all the streaming services.
Here it is on my site for streaming and purchase.

Hope you enjoy singing it!
