This Is Love

This past Saturday a friend texted and congratulated me on my new song, and for a second I didn't know what he was talking about. Then it dawned on me that a couple weeks ago I had scheduled a release, which I promptly forgot about! Thankfully, computers don't usually forget, and it was released to streaming as planned (links are below if you want to skip the rest of this…).

I wrote “This Is Love” after reading 1 John again. Every time I read it I'm disappointed that my understanding of love has, once again, been slightly distorted. The romantic view is so prevalent it's impossible to escape. It's even made its way into lots of Christian music. So, I wanted this song to be my personal reminder that real love is heartfelt faithfulness.

I sent it to a few friends at the time, but didn't initially intend to record and release a studio version. However, it's been stuck in my head and on my hard-drive (do they make those anymore?) for a long time. But the time has come to get it out there.

The guitar and vocal track was recorded with just a couple microphones in my home almost 10 years ago. This was the first take. In fact, I think it was the only one. I was probably just recording so that I would not forget it (something I am apt to do…), which means it's probably the first time I had ever played it all the way through. Fresh off the press, as we say. But it captured what was in my heart at the time, so we took that very simple live recording and built a track around it. It was great to work with engineer and producer, Tom Michael, and I love how it turned out. I hope you do too!

You can listen and purchase on my site or find it on your favorite streaming platform (Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon, Youtube, and many more).

Hope you enjoy it. Feel free to pass it around!
Grace and Peace,
Nathan
